Edinburgh Dugald Stewart Building

This large project was for the supply of internal doorsets for the University of Edinburgh Dugald Stewart Building and comprised Rift Cut European oak veneered doors hung in European Oak frames. There were also a large number of screens between corridors and rooms. Frames were of the split type with integral architrave. Stops were individually sized to extend from the door to the back of the frame; careful machining and labelling ensured that stops could be easily matched to the frames to avoid confusion owing to the many varying partition thicknesses.

A large proportion of the doorsets were supplied with overpanels, and careful veneering and coordination was required so all panels were matched when installed on site.

Many of the overpanels in non fire rated doors comprised veneered MDF with hundreds of holes for ventilation above the door.

There were also over sixty sets of 2 hour fire rated doorsets, many of which were of a large size and required close coordination with the Client and Design Team to work within the certification requirements for these specialist products.
