Excelsior Academy in Newcastle upon Tyne

Howard Lichfield Partnership

One of a series of privately sponsored Academies in the North East, Excelsior Academy in Newcastle upon Tyne is the latest we have supplied doorsets to.

A variety of different specifications was accommodated, ranging from crown cut oak veneered doors to three differing laminate facing options to match the colour schemes of the different buildings within the project.

The majority of doors were supplied with matching overpanels, which in the case of the veneered sets called for careful selection and matching to ensure perfect alignment of the overpanels with the doors below.

Most classroom doors had adjoining screens which we were pleased to supply, along with the glass to minimise site involvement in taking sizes and ordering separately. Acoustic seals were also supplied and fitted to doors to ensure noise transmission was reduced between classrooms and corridors.

Our involvement included the scheduling, supply and factory machining of all the doorsets & ironmongery. To achieve this, working closely with the site team and architect was necessary to meet the specific requirements without exceeding the allocated budgets. One particular point of note was the incorporation of concealed door closers in the tops of doors and bottom edges of overpanels in double swing corridor doors.

This unusual setup was requested owing to under-floor services meaning conventional floor springs could not be used.
