Following the 2003 revisions to approved document E (resistance to the passage of sound), acoustic doors are being specified in everyday environments including schools, colleges, health service, residential applications, hotels, offices, etc. With this change in direction European Door Sets has become one of the leading suppliers of fully certified acoustic doorsets.

Certification

The acoustic performance of door assemblies is now part of the Building Regulations for England & Wales, Part E1 states that “dwelling houses, flats and rooms for residential purpose” must meet a minimum of 29dB & E4, “acoustic conditions in schools” must reach a minimum of 30dB and in some cases 35dB.   Part of the requirement states that timber doors should have a minimum mass per unit area of 25kg/m2, with these figures being comfortably achieved as detailed in our Technical Manual, please enquire for further details.

European Door Sets has developed a wide range of fully certified performance doorsets tailored around approved Document E which provide sound resistance upto 44dB. The doorsets are tested by UKAS under laboratory conditions to BS EN ISO 140-3 1995 and are manufactured in our factory using the latest state of the art CNC machinery.  Both construction and installation of components is critical to ensure high levels of sound attenuation are achieved.

Specification

European Door Sets standard range has a wide spectrum of test evidence to suit most applications. Tests were carried out using both rebated frames and fixed stops with the 54mm three layer monolithic (severe duty) door core providing results to 35dB.   The extended performance doorsets were tested using similar configuration and seal arrangements however a specialist 63mm thick solid sound dampening core was used achieving results to 44 dB.

Performance

Acoustic doorsets are also designed around existing performance criteria including Fire Resistance upto FD120 Smoke Containment and Mechanical Strength / Durability with ratings available up to severe duty.

Appearance

European Door Sets standard range of Acoustic doorsets, to 35dB, can be tailored around a variety of finishes from veneered, laminated, or paint-grade, in single, pair or leaf and a half configuration. Vision panels can be inserted covering most designs with multiple apertures available subject to a maximum overall sizing.

Delivery

All doorsets are supplied complete with the necessary seal arrangements used to achieve the tested results. These can be fitted at source or supplied loose for on site fitting once decorative works have been carried out.

On site

It should be noted that performances reached in laboratory conditions are difficult to replicate on site with site results generally being lower, this should be taken into account when specifying acoustic door sets.
